Reasons Someone Can Become a
Wrongly Accused Person
GENERAL OVERVIEW
Despite popular belief, unjust allegations and charges occur significantly more often than anyone would like to accept. For most of us, we go through our lives blissfully unaware of the miscarriages of justice that happen daily for a whole host of reasons. Though almost everyone will know of cases in the media where after a period of time someone has been released after serving a proportion of a sentence following their conviction for a crime they never committed, it is generally assumed that these instances are rare and that on the whole our criminal justice system performs well. In fact many would complain more of people getting away with crimes they have actually done than consider how many are accused of offences they haven’t. It is only after you or a loved one find yourselves in that position that you become trully aware of everything that goes on and how it happens. There is a reason why the scales of justice depicted above are unbalanced, its time to even the odds!
To put some kind of perspective on it, try thinking of how many miscarriages of justice you have heard of following press coverage of an innocent person being released. Then consider how many people have not had the good fortune to have had a wrongful conviction overturned, keep in mind that once a prosecution has been successful few will have the means to continue investigations on their own behalf. If the prospect of that hasn’t already alarmed you, now consider how many people were charged, remanded and acquitted when the case against them failed to be proved. Those people live on with the stigma of the allegation regardless of the outcome at trial. For good measure, add to that how many innocent people are charged but the case is later dropped and fails to see a court room. In my opinion everyone’s legitimate complaint of criminals not paying the price for their actions would best be resolved if police and court resources weren’t being drained to the extent they are by attempts to prove innocent people guilty. After all, common sense tells you that it takes considerably more effort to prove something that didn’t happen than it does to prove something that actually did!
Since there are so many different reasons why someone can become a wrongly accused person, I feel it’s best to separate the various reasons and explain each individually, you can select which explanation interests you most using the tabs above or why not view them all, you’ll be surprised by what you find. Where possible and current restrictions do not prevent me from doing so, I have provided factual examples from either my own experience or that of others, if you are aware of other examples please don’t hesitate to contact me using the appropriate contact form provided. I will consider adding them to the site after I have assessed its worth and benefit to public knowledge, I will leave no stone unturned in my efforts to expose corruption or misconduct.
